My Best Friend’s Wedding

I just went to my best friend’s wedding reception, and I have to say it was the best wedding party I’ve ever been to.

Primarily because my friend has so many friends from so many different walks of life.

So many friends I can’t keep track of, but she will tell me stories about so and so, and I finally got to put faces to names.

Some of her friends I know. Some of her friends are also friends of mine.

It was so much fun to celebrate with all these people.

For me, it was an epic party of a lifetime.

My bestie is the most charismatic, dynamic, hilarious person I’ve ever known. Most of the best times I’ve had in life were with her.

She has also taken care of me through my darkest times and held my hand through times when I barely felt I could survive.

We are sisters.

She is a logical, no-nonsense woman with her head straight on. But she is also witty, a world traveler, and a dreamer.

We are the same and different both at the same time.

I am not logical, though; that is probably where our biggest difference lies.

I’m reasonable; I’m just not logical. Maybe because I’m an artist.

My friend is also an artist; she’s done glass blowing and other crafty things I’m incapable of doing but truly respect.

But she understands that difference. She realized a little while ago that I didn’t understand what she did for a living after 20 years. She is an engineer. She explained it in nina terms to me. She said, “Pretend I’m making a factory that makes clothes. I make sure the making of the clothing is efficient and those who are making it are not getting hurt in the process.”

Wearing the jewels my mom gave me.

I understand fashion, OK. And she understood that. I don’t understand cars. I can barely drive one.

I mentioned in previous posts that sometimes I know when I have known someone in a past life. My bestie and I have lived a lot of lives together for a long, long time. How do I know this?

I just know. She knows as well.

We have traveled together; we will probably travel together for the rest of eternity.

I wouldn’t want to go through this existence with anyone else.

We jokingly fight because in many ways we are so different. She tells me I’m a complete fool every now and then when I do something ridiculous. She stops me from doing idiotic things.

What do I do for her? I don’t do enough; I’ll tell you that.

I owe her. I owe her so much I don’t know where to start.

In this life, she has taken care of me primarily. I try to be there for her, but she is fiercely independent and doesn’t always allow people to take care of her.

So, back to the wedding. Apparently, I’m not the only one who loves the shit out of this woman. She is truly loved. By many people. Many, many people. I suspect anyone who meets her falls a little bit in love with her.

She’s one of the guys at work, one of the girls with the women in her office. She does service with the temple people, and every now and then visits the temple and really gets into the bhajans, or devotional music.

At this wedding, I’ve never seen her look more beautiful and happy. I gave a speech about both her and her husband, and I was later told the whole party was amused and moved, and I feel lucky to have finally done something for her.

She doesn’t know her own worth, her own beauty. I don’t know how to express it, except in that speech and in these words.

No one on earth deserves happiness more than she does. I hope she has found it.

And if she needs help with it, I am there to provide joy and love; that’s all I can give the most beautiful person I know in this world.
